Your options

Choose Your Private Scenic Drive Experience

Banff to Lake Louise – One-Way Scenic Transfer

Travelling from Banff to a Lake Louise hotel? Red Mile Limousine Services can turn your transfer into a scenic journey along the Bow Valley Parkway, with selected photography stops before your final drop-off.

This is ideal for guests changing hotels who want to enjoy the drive rather than simply reach the next destination.

Banff to Lake Louise – Round-Trip Scenic Sightseeing

Staying in Banff? Enjoy the Bow Valley Parkway on the outward journey, with selected viewpoints and additional time around Lake Louise when included in your booking.

The return can follow the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1), giving you a different route back to Banff when conditions permit.

Extended Scenic Drive with Johnston Canyon

Interested in adding Johnston Canyon to your scenic drive? This can be arranged when the canyon trails and visitor facilities are open and your booking allows sufficient time. Walking to the waterfalls requires additional time beyond a roadside photography stop.

Johnston Canyon is subject to temporary closures and access restrictions. Red Mile Limousine Services checks the relevant Parks Canada notices when planning your itinerary and will not include a canyon walk while the trail is closed.

One-way scenic transfers, round-trip sightseeing and extended Johnston Canyon visits are quoted according to pickup and drop-off locations, planned stops and total service time.

The scenic route

Why Take Bow Valley Parkway Instead of Highway 1?

A direct Banff-to-Lake Louise transfer focuses on reaching the destination efficiently. A Bow Valley Parkway scenic drive makes the journey part of your sightseeing day.

Highway 1A follows approximately 48 kilometres of Bow Valley scenery between Banff and Lake Louise, passing forested sections, open meadows, mountain landscapes and roadside viewpoints.

It’s a different experience from travelling directly along the Trans-Canada Highway. Read our Bow Valley Parkway guide for more about the route.

Castle Mountain – A Signature Rocky Mountain View

Castle Mountain is one of the most recognizable landmarks along Highway 1A, rising above the Bow Valley with its distinctive layered rock face.

The Castle Junction and Castle Cliffs areas offer different perspectives of the mountain, making this a worthwhile photography stop when public access and parking permit.

Railway viewpoint

Morant’s Curve – The Famous Railway Viewpoint

Near the Lake Louise end of the Bow Valley Parkway, Morant’s Curve is one of the best-known railway photography locations in the Canadian Rockies.

The railway curves through the Bow Valley with the Bow River and surrounding mountains forming the landscape. The viewpoint is associated with Canadian railway photographer Nicholas Morant, whose images helped make the Canadian Rockies famous through Canadian Pacific railway photography.

A passing train can make the scene particularly memorable.

Train sightings are not guaranteed, and the itinerary is not scheduled around railway movements.

Planning

How Much Time Should You Allow?

A direct transfer between Banff and Lake Louise is usually quicker than travelling along the Bow Valley Parkway with sightseeing stops.

For a relaxed one-way scenic journey, allow approximately 2–3 hours, depending on your pickup location, selected viewpoints, traffic and road conditions.

A round-trip sightseeing experience or an extended Johnston Canyon visit will require additional time. Red Mile Limousine Services will recommend an appropriate booking duration based on your itinerary.

Arriving at Lake Louise

Your scenic drive can finish at your confirmed Lake Louise hotel or include additional sightseeing around Lake Louise when arranged in advance.

Visiting the Lake Louise lakeshore requires separate planning because parking, traffic management and visitor access can affect the itinerary.

Tell Red Mile Limousine Services whether you need a hotel transfer or want time to experience the lake itself. See Lake Louise transportation for hotel transfers and airport connections.

Seasonal Access to Bow Valley Parkway

The eastern 17-kilometre section of the Bow Valley Parkway, between the Fireside area and Johnston Canyon, is subject to seasonal motor-vehicle restrictions.

Red Mile Limousine Services plans the scenic route around the access rules in effect on your travel date. If a section is closed to vehicles, the itinerary can use permitted access points or an alternative route.

The full Highway 1A route is subject to seasonal access.
