A Golden to Calgary Airport Transfer During a Highway Closure – February 2024
In February 2024, one of our chauffeurs collected passengers in Golden for a private transfer to Calgary International Airport.
1. Highway 1 closed
During the journey, Highway 1 was closed following a truck accident. The chauffeur waited with other drivers, but a police officer advised that reopening the highway would take longer.
2. An alternative route
After updating the passengers, the chauffeur took an alternative route along Highway 95 toward Radium Hot Springs, then Highway 93 through Kootenay National Park to Castle Junction, rejoining Highway 1 toward Calgary.
3. The outcome
The detour added considerable travel time, and the passengers had to change their flight arrangements.

The usual Calgary–Golden journey follows Highway 1 west through the Canadian Rockies, passing the Canmore, Banff and Lake Louise areas before continuing through Yoho National Park near Field. Eastbound transfers generally follow the same corridor in reverse.
